Project background
The Jewel is a mixed-use, multi-tower skyrise in Surfers Paradise on Queensland’s Gold Coast. The three-tower complex by the Wanda Group comprises 512 premium apartments and a 169-room five-star hotel with multiple dining and retail precincts located on each level.
The challenge
Originally designed with a traditional fully vented modified stack waste system, contractor Beavis & Bartels sought to revise initial plans and install a Reduced Velocity Aerator Stack System (RVASS) at The Jewel. Any changes were required to comply with strict construction timelines, of course – and meet the standards of a landmark project.
The solution
The Vinidex Akatherm HDPE Drainage System was selected for installation at The Jewel. As a fully engineered waste stack system, the RVASS alternative offered numerous benefits. Faster installation times required less pipework, penetrations and fire collars, while limiting onsite labour. The reduced size of waste pipes also created additional usable floor area and improved internal amenity through a reduced, controlled plug velocity (ensuring trap integrity, air quality and reduced airborne noise).
